The Nature of Hypochlorous Acid
Hypochlorous acid is naturally produced by the white blood cells of all mammals, including humans. It plays an important role in our natural, innate immune system to kill. invading pathogens to fight infections through an oxidation process at the cellular level.
Hypochlorous Acid in Action
When a wound breaks human skin, it creates a pathway for pathogens to invade our cells. Neutrophils is one type of white blood cell that travels to the site of the wound where the pathogens are invading. Its’ mission is to destroy the invading pathogen threatening the human cell before it can harm the body.
Killing Pathogens
The invading pathogens are engulfed by white blood cells through a process called phagocytosis. Once engulfed, the white blood cell produces hypochlorous acid to kill the pathogen within milliseconds of contact. This antimicrobial process is called the Oxidative Burst Pathway.
